Kibbutz Zikim - Near S'derot

We went to Kibbutz Zikim this afternoon and heard a self-described leftist tell us about his community of social living while actively defending Israeli policy and repeating the Israeli narrative of victimhood and fear.  It was disturbing to say the least.  In his presentation, he said that one of the reasons he left the US at a young age to live in Israel was because he “as a leftist,” he couldn’t handle the race relations in the US (apparently he felt no desire to change the realities that upset him).  I asked him if he noticed similarities between the plight of Israeli Arab citizens (Palestinians within 48 borders) and that of African Americans.  He simply said that he didn’t no anything about Israel when he chose to move and he didn’t think the comparison was fair.

The photos are:
1. Kid's house where the roof has special cement structures to prevent rocket attack damage.
2. The IFPB group touring around the Kibbutz
3. The only remaining building from the Palestinian village that existed here pre-48.  This building is set to be demolished shortly
4. A menorah made out of rockets fired into the Kibbutz.
