Wi'am Center - Bethlehem

Since having taken a course on practical mediation skill in Northern Ireland, I have been interested by the concept of mediation and its application in conflict and post-conflict situations.  Today we met with an organization that has been doing mediation work since 1994.  The Wi’im center in Bethlehem aims to “transform the garbage of anger into flowers of compassion” as the center’s founder and directer Zoughbi told us.  For him, his work was clearly not one of conflict resolution, but rather of conflict transformation.  In the absence of civil government, he said the most powerful tool for Palestinians is the agency of family.  His center works on delivering hope and transformation to the Palestinian community and strengthening the community relations.
